Often referred to as "America's Alps", the Cascades Mountain Range runs up through Washington state into Canada. The North Cascades section of this range is the most rugged, wild, and beautiful. This photograph was taken during a "back-country" ski tour trip during May 2000, after trekking ("walking" on skis) to the top of a mountain, just before preparing to ski down. Kangaroo Mountain, shown here, strikes an imposing view against the sky.
